U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance recently visited Hamilton Primary School in Bridgewater.
BRIDGEWATER - U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-7th Dist.) and Somerset County Freeholder Patrick Scaglione recently visited Hamilton Primary School to talk to the fourth-grade class about their respective roles in federal and county government.
Lance explained his job and responsibilities as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He impressed the students by naming all 21 New Jersey counties (in alphabetical order) as well as all the U.S. presidents, according to a press release.
Scaglione spoke about the role of county government in providing services such as the Somerset County Library System, Raritan Valley Community College, the Vocational & Technical High School, public works (roads and bridges), recycling, and health and human services.
Following the elected officials' presentations, there was a question-and-answer session with a lively discussion. The students had many questions for the speakers, with topics ranging from the structure of our government to the environment, immigration, taxes, and the next presidential election.
