Students earned second and third place in the VFW Voice of Democracy Patriotic essay contest.
WATCHUNG -- On March 16 Mount Saint Mary Academy students Alexandra Aloe of Scotch Plains and Olivia Carini of Chatham were honored for earning second and third place, respectively, in the county-wide VFW Voice of Democracy Patriotic Audio Essay Contest.
Students who entered the contest were required to make a two- to five-minute recording on this year's topic, "My Vision for America." The entries were judged for originality, content and presentation.
Alexandra and Olivia won first place in the local VFW Post 10122 contest in Scotch Plains before advancing to the county competition. Their entries will now advance to the state-level competition.
The two were honored at a ceremony held at VFW Post 2230 in Kenilworth.
