Lawrence Davies reportedly surrendered after holding two people hostage at a Hillsborough residence.
HILLSBOROUGH -- The Somerset County SWAT/Crisis Negotiations Team successfully convinced a township who had barricaded himself inside his residence with two hostages to surrender on Saturday, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office announced Monday.
Lawrence Davies, 58, was taken to a local hospital for observation. He was in possession of a .357 Magnum handgun and had threatened to harm the two individuals who were inside the residence, according to a news release from the prosecutor's office.
The prosecutor's office declined to release any additional information, such as Davies' relationship to the hostages.
At approximately 10:51 p.m., the Hillsborough police received a 9-1-1 call from a Fairfield Lane residence reporting that a man, later identified as Davies, reportedly had a weapon and two hostages, it was stated in the release.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., SWAT members made contact with Davies and were able to successfully negotiate a peaceful end to the standoff, according to the release.
Davies has been charged with second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purposed, third-degree terroristic threats and fourth-degree aggravated assault. Bail has been set at $75,000 cash or bond, according to the prosecutor's office.
