During his tenure, the Board of Education has aligned appropriations to the goals in the district's five-year strategic plan.

Jorden Schiff, superintendent of Hillsborough Township Public Schools, has been selected by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators) as the 2015 Somerset County Superintendent of the Year.

Schiff was appointed Superintendent of Hillsborough Township Public Schools in January 2011, a preschool through grade 12 school district of over 7,200 students and about 1,000 staff members.

"I am truly humbled to receive this recognition, but any advances in the district have been a result of great teamwork," Schiff said.

During his tenure, the Board of Education has aligned appropriations to the goals in the district's five-year strategic plan.

Over this time, the district has implemented a 1:1 technology initiative where every student in grades 5 through 12 was supplied with a personal, district-issued technology device, and provided students in kindergarten through grade 4 with classroom devices.

This initiative employs the technology to globalize the curriculum, provide asynchronous learning, and enable the creation, collaboration and publication of digital content.

"The Hillsborough Township Board of Education congratulates Dr. Schiff for this noted recognition of the leadership and partnership that he has provided to our school district," said Thomas Kinst, president of the Hillsborough Township Board of Education.

The district has also completed a redesign and expansion of the district's world languages offerings and curricula to enable students to graduate from Hillsborough High School as advanced proficient in their chosen language of study.

An Energy Savings Improvement Plan was also implemented, which included $16 million in capital improvement projects throughout the district's nine schools, without raising community taxes.

These and other district improvements were achieved while maintaining a low total budgetary cost per pupil in comparison to other districts the size of Hillsborough.

Prior to joining Hillsborough, Schiff served as superintendent of schools at Readington Township Public Schools and assistant superintendent for curriculum and personnel at Howell Township Public Schools.

He spent four years as a classroom teacher prior to serving as fine Arts supervisor and an assistant principal in North Brunswick, principal in High Bridge, and principal and Coordinator of Elementary Education in Westfield.

As the NJASA Somerset County Superintendent of the Year, Schiff will be considered among other central county Superintendents of the Year to become the New Jersey Central Superintendent of the Year.

A single New Jersey candidate will be chosen from the three state regions (Northern, Central, and Southern) to participate in the AASA, The School Superintendents Association's National Superintendent of the Year Award.
