N.J. woman found guilty in $15K theft from Home Depot

The Phillipsburg woman shorted bank deposits on several occasions while working at a Bridgewater Home Depot.

 

SOMERVILLE -- A Phillipsburg woman was found guilty of third-degree theft by deception for stealing approximately $15,000 in cash from Home Depot over a five-month period in 2013, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday.

Rodica Grecea, 56, was convicted Thursday after a trial in Somerset County Superior Court before Judge Edward M. Coleman.

Grecea, who worked at the home improvement store's Bridgewater location, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 22.

Between March 1 and July 1, 2013, Grecea stole the money while working as an associate at the store who was responsible for counting up the day's proceeds and preparing them for despos it into the bank, according to the prosecutor's office.

Grecea shorted the deposits on several occasions during the five-month period, the prosecutor's office said.

Grecea's bail was set at $10,000 with a 10 percent option.

The state's case was presented by Acting Assistant Prosecutor James C. Lankford. Mark Imbriani represented Grecea.
