HUNTERDON COUNTY -- Carolyn B. Newman, director and producer of ShowKids Invitational Theatre since 1986, was inducted into the 2015 New Jersey Association of Community Theater's Perry Award Hall of Fame.
The High Bridge resident celebrated her induction at the NJACT's Black and White Gala at the DoubleTree Hotel in Somerset on Sept. 20.
Newman has produced 70 shows with more than 1,000 SKIT members during her career. SKIT -- a nonprofit, family community theater group with performers ranging from ages 5 to 18 -- has received 170 total Perry Award nominations.
Last September, SKIT won awards in four out of the 10 categories for their production of "Shrek" including: Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Sound Design, Outstanding Scene Design and Outstanding Costume Design.
"Every SKIT production is truly a labor of love," Newman said. "A win in any category is a win for all of SKIT, but 'Outstanding Production' is truly a testament to what we can accomplish together."
