Students bring home awards from the Somerset County Teen Arts Festival.
"Beach Cave" by Catherine Jennings won an award at the Somerset County Teen Arts Festival. WATCHUNG -- Four students from Mount Saint Mary Academy earned gold awards for their work at the Somerset County Teen Arts Festival.
The daylong event, held May 11 at Raritan Valley Community College, featured visual art exhibits, theatrical presentations, dance, vocal and instrumental music performances and original film and creative writing pieces.
Earning awards were Alexandra Jerez of Hopelawn for her mixed media work, "Worldly Fashion"; Catherine Jennings of Middlesex for a scratchboard piece called "Beach Cave"; Therese Ruane of Mountainside for her art piece, "Allure"; and Devon Smith of Scotch Plains for a ceramic relief named "Weird."
"These artists are all exemplary art students," said art teacher Duffy Dillinger, who added that the work will be on display this summer at the Somerset Cultural and Heritage Gallery in Somerville.
