'The Bachelorette' contestant JoJo Fletcher will meet her 26 suitors on Monday's premiere; among them is civil engineer and singer Will Haduch of Somerville and Jersey City
"The Bachelorette" star JoJo Fletcher begins her search for true love -- or at least like-enough-to-pretend-to-be-a-couple-until-after-the-reunion-show -- tonight, and among her 26 prospects is New Jersey civil engineer Will Haduch, a singer and guitarist on the side.
Fletcher, a 25-year-old real estate developer from Texas, had her heart broken (excuse me, "heart broken") by Ben Higgins at the end of "The Bachelor" last season but, one suspects, won the real prize by becoming "The Bachelorette." The ABC reality show, now in its 12th season, premieres Monday, May 23, at 9 p.m. EST/8 p.m. CST, following the performance finale of "Dancing With the Stars."
Here's what you need to know about Haduch:
1. He's a born-and-bred Jersey guy. He grew up in Somerville and now lives in Jersey City, apparently on a boat.
2. He's well educated. He's a 2012 graduate of the College of New Jersey with a bachelor's in civil engineering, where he also played football.
3. He is employable in a field of work that actually exists. Unlike his fellow contestants, whose professions include "hipster" and "'Bachelor' superfan," he worked until March as an assistant high rise superintendent at Toll Brothers and previously worked at Turner Construction.
4. He cares. As part of a fundraiser for the Special Olympics, he wrote and performed personalized songs for contributors' Facebook pages. ("Hey Teresa/I only wanna please ya/Let's see the pyramids of Giza/Or the Leaning Tower of Pisa/I'd say 'God bless you' when you sneeze-a")
5. He describes himself as laid back, adventurous and sincere, and is looking for a girl who can laugh at her herself. He certainly laughs at himself. Check out his new music video for "Steal Your Girl" as "Thrills Wilson":
6. If he could be anyone for a day, he'd pick John Mayer: "I want to melt faces with a guitar solo, then melt hearts with some sappy lyrics."
7. He gets to first base in the premiere (while clutching what seems to be a paper fortune-teller, hmmm).
