Early rain doesn't dampen 2016 Tour of Somerville (PHOTOS)

The 73rd Tour of Somerville was held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2016.

SOMERVILLE - Although there were early-morning showers, the 73rd Tour of Somerville went ahead as planned on Monday.

Rain forced the cancellation of the annual Memorial Day parade and a planned bicycle ride for families, but the remain of the day's races, including the Mildred Kugler Women's Open and the Kugler-Anderson Memorial.

Although crowds were down because of the threat of storms, those that did attend were enthusiastic.

The Tour of Somerville is promoted by Arts on Division, a Somerset County resource that promotes all aspects of culture and the arts, for the benefit of Jack's Kids, a Somerville Elks initiative that eases the financial burden to families dealing with a serious childhood illness and disabilities. 

In addition, proceeds from the sale of the commemorative T-shirt benefits Middle Earth. This year's shirt logo was designed by Jojo Mosca, a senior at Somerville High School, whose winning design featured a bright yellow design that uses the letter O in the event name to be the wheels of a bike.
