The 27 pallets of cat and dog food must be removed before the trailer can be towed, police said
MANVILLE -- A tractor trailer pulling a load of pet food struck the rail road bridge on North Main Street Thursday morning, forcing the closure of the road, police said.
Manville Police Chief Mark Peltack said the roof the tractor trailer was ripped off when it hit the bridge around 9:50 a.m.
The tractor trailer, which was hauling 27 pallets of cat and dog food, made it through the underpass but the roof was peeled off from the impact, police said.
As of 10:35 a.m., North Main Street in front of police headquarters remained closed heading onto South Main Street up to Brooks Avenue, police said. Detours are in place, police said.
A tow truck is on the scene but the 27 pallets of cat and dog food must be removed before the tractor trailer can be towed and the roadway reopened, police said.
Police had no time frame as to when the roadway will be reopened.
