BERNARDSVILLE -- A residence built to a design by one of the nation's most celebrated architects is up for sale, Curbed.com reported Thursday.
The 76-year-old James B. Christie House is built in the Usonian style developed by Frank Lloyd Wright, incorporating characteristic features like the use of natural materials to emphasize a connection to the outdoors. The L-shaped, single-story home, the oldest and biggest in the state based on Wright's designs, sits on about 7 acres of land and is being offered at an asking price of $2.2 million.
The three-bedroom home was last on the market in October, when it was purchased for $1.7 million. The new owner added a new roof and heating system.
Born in 1867, Frank Lloyd Wright founded the Prairie school of architecture, which draws inspiration from the North American landscape. By the time he died in 1959, Wright had designed some of the nation's and world's most iconic structures, including the Taliesin home in his native Wisconsin, another home known as Fallingwater in Pennsylvania and the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, which survived a devastating earthquake in 1923.
