NORTH PLAINFIELD -- A township man who claimed that an 11-year-old girl was his girlfriend has been indicted on a charge of first-degree aggravated sexual assault.
Roberto Carlos Amaya, 19, was also indicted on second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
On Sept. 14, the girl was interviewed by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, according to an affidavit filed by Somerset County Detective Randy Sidorski.

The girl told detectives she had sexual intercourse with a man named "Carlos" in his basement apartment in the early-morning hours that day, the affidavit said. She also said she had sex with him on more than one occasion between August 2015 and Sept. 14, 2015, the affidavit said.
Amaya admitted to detectives he had sex with the minor on Sept. 14 and that he considered her his girlfriend, the affidavit said.
