Police ask anyone with information to call investigators
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP -- A 53-year-old man died after a box truck crashed into the driver's side of the sport utility vehicle he was driving on Cottontail Lane in the township Saturday, police said.
Emergency crews were called to the wreck around 12:30 p.m. after receiving multiple calls reporting a serious crash near Weston Canal Road, according to Sgt. Philip Rizzo, spokesman for the Franklin Township Police Department.
Police found a Ford F-550 box truck and a Toyota Rav-4 down an embankment, Rizzo said in a statement.
A preliminary investigation found the box truck, driven by Walter Washington, 27, of Parlin, was heading southbound on Cottontail Lane when it failed to maneuver around a turn, crossed the centerline and slammed into the Toyota, according to police.
