Some 100 people attended a meeting in Manville on Aug. 8, 2016, to hear why the tax bills in the borough are increasing.

MANVILLE -- Some 100 people attended a tax revaluation information meeting Monday to express concern about their rising property tax bills, according to a report on MyCentralJersey.

During the meeting, Somerset County Tax Administrator Robert Vance explained that because the borough doesn't annually update property assessments there is a spike in tax rates when revaluations are done, according to the report.

Mayor Richard Onderko said one of the reasons borough residents pay higher taxes is the school district does not get a fair share of state aid. The borough is also waiting to hear if it will receive state aid to recover property tax revenue lost when 160 homes in flood-prone areas were purchased and demolished, it was stated in the report.
