FRANKLIN -- A Somerville man who authorities said punched a female so hard it caused bleeding on her brain has been indicted on second-degree aggravated assault.

Jaquan Williams, 22, is being held in Somerset County Jail on $50,000 bail with a 10 percent option.

On Sept. 9, Franklin police responded to a call from a township Holiday Inn that a female had been assaulted, according to an affidavit filed by Franklin Detective Derek Miller.

Williams allegedly struck the 28-year-old in the face and chest with a closed fist, causing her to suffer multiple contusions to her face, a laceration to her lip and bleeding on the brain, the affidavit said.

The alleged victim is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, the affidavit said.

The affidavit didn't state the relationship between the pair or what sparked Williams to allegedly punch the female.

Somerset County Prosecutor's Office spokesman, Capt. Jack Bennett, said those details are being withheld pending a trial.
