Counseling would be available, the principal said.
BASKING RIDGE -- A Ridge High School 10th grader died Friday evening, a school official said.
A letter from Principal Francis T. Howlett told parents that Kyra O'Dwyer had died.
"We know that the community will be affected by this tragic loss," Howlett wrote in the letter dated Saturday.
The letter encouraged parents to listen to their children if they have any questions about death and listed online resources to help them understand grieving. Howlett encouraged students to visit the school counseling department and child study team.
Kyra's friends were writing messages of condolence and grief on Twitter using the hashtag #restinpeacekyra.
