BERNARDS TOWNSHIP -- Somerset Hills Airport was located in the area between Lord Stirling Road and Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge, Bernards Township. In this photo from 1942, U.S. Navy flight cadets are shown during their training for service in World War II.
According to airfields-freeman.com, the facility with three grass runways served as a training facility for both the Navy and Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. Following the war, it reverted to a private airfield serving light recreational and business aircraft.
