An older Labrador retriever found in a puddle in Clinton Township by a passing motorist is resting comfortably in a local veterinarian's office.
CLINTON TWP. - An older Labrador retriever found Tuesday in a puddle by a passing motorist is resting comfortably in a local veterinarian's office, Sarah Conklin, supervising animal control officer at Animal Control Solutions, LLC, said Wednesday.
It does not appear the dog, estimated to be between 10 and 12 years of age, was hit by a vehicle, Conklin said, but it's "an older Lab" and "it just didn't have the strength to get back up" after it collapsed.
The shelter, based in Flemington, has received many calls from concerned people, but "no calls from an owner," Conklin said.
The dog cannot receive any treatment without authorization from its owners, Conklin said. It will be held for seven days and, if no owner is found, the shelter will put it up for adoption, Conklin said.
Township police said officers responded to a report of a dog found by a passing motorist at 11:25 a.m. The dog was found on Lilac Drive near Red Schoolhouse Road. The motorist and several other local residents removed the dog from the water and wrapped it in a blanket.
The dog had no tags or other identifiers and the police department has received no reports of a missing dog.
