BRIDGEWATER -- A township man who barricaded himself inside his Fiderne Avenue home Wednesday afternoon and held authorities at bay for nearly an hour-and-a-half had just returned from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, where he had made threats.

Township police didn't reveal the nature of the threats.

On Wednesday at approximately 2 p.m., the resident of Finderne Avenue made threats while at the hospital, police said. He then left the hospital and returned to his residence, police said.

Officers from both the Bridgewater and Somerville Police Departments went to his residence to make contact with him, police said.

Due to the nature of his threats, and the failure of the subject to maintain communications with the officers at the scene, members of the Somerset County S.W.A.T. team were activated, police said.

After the S.W.A.T. team arrived, the individual exited his residence and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

At this time, no charges are pending, police said.
