FRANKLIN TWP. - A township man who has been wanted by police since a Jan. 3 shooting in the area on Tuesday turned himself into authorities at his attorney's Newark office, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson announced on Wednesday.
Jaki N. Hooks-Lewis, 20, had been wanted in connection with the shooting of a 31-year-old male who suffered a non-life threatening would to his leg. The shooting took place in the area of Dewald Avenue in the township, according to police.
During an investigation, detectives identified Hooks-Lewis as the shooter, police said. It was later revealed that Jason Lewis, his father, assisted his son in fleeing from the area after the shooting, police added.
On Feb. 10, Lewis, 43, turned himself into authorities at the Somerset County Jail.
Somerset County Crime Stoppers offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the father and son.
On Jan. 3 at approximately 7:44 p.m., township police responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting gunshots in the area of Dewald Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from a gunshot, it was previously reported.
The victim, who authorities said was the intended target, was taken to a local trauma center for emergency treatment.
After surrendering at approximately 2 p.m., Hooks-Lewis was held in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
Hooks-Lewis has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault. His father, Jason Lewis, has been charged with third-degree hindering apprehension.
