Authorities were tipped off that the defendants had a large quantity of drugs.
FRANKLIN -- Two men were arrested and authorities seized more than 1,100 grams of cocaine, 400 grams of heroin and $28,758 in cash after receiving a tip about suspected drug activity in Franklin.
Guillermo Delossantos, 31, of the Somerset section of Franklin, and Melvin Miguel Peralta, 26, of New Brunswick, were arrested Wednesday and are being held at the Somerset County Jail.
Members of the Somerset County's Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force received information Wednesday that a white Infinity SUV parked in front of a residence on Ralph Street in Somerset contained an unknown quantity of drugs, according to an affidavit filed in the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.
Authorities saw two men walk over to the car and Delossantos got in, while Peralta stood outside the driver's side, officials said. Investigators confronted both men and found Peralta with 67.4 grams of cocaine and $17,327.00 in cash, authorities said.PLUS: 3 arrested, $500K worth of cocaine seized in Franklin Township
A consent to search the residence led to the seizure of 641.5 grams of cocaine and 225 grams of heroin in the garage area and $11,070.00 in cash in a basement bedroom, authorities said.
A search of Delossantos' vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded 9mm handgun, $361.00 in cash, and more than 400 grams of cocaine, authorities said.
Delossantos has been charged with first-degree possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, first-degree possession of heroin with intent to distribute and second-degree possession of a handgun during a drug offense. He has a permit to carry a handgun, the affidavit said.
Peralta has been charged with second-degree distribution of cocaine. Bail information for the two men was not immediately available.
