Police are investigating the shooting of an 18-year-old girl on April 28, 2017, in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said.
FRANKLIN TWP. - Police are investigating the shooting of an 18-year-old girl in the Somerset section of the township, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said.
Police received a 9-1-1 call at 11:48 p.m. on Friday reporting the sound of gunfire in the area of Baier Avenue, Robertson said. The girl was not the intended target, Robertson said, adding the shooting was an isolated incident.
Officers from the Franklin Township Police Department found the girl who had a non-life threatening gunshot wound to her lower extremities. The officers provided medical aid to the victim, who was then transported to a local trauma center for emergency treatment, Robertson said.

Detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department, along with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit conducted an investigation into the shooting, Robertson said.
This is the second shooting in the township in two weeks. A 29-year-old New Brunswick man was also shot in his lower extremity on April 19 in the area of Fuller Street, it was previously reported. The man was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital.

Friday's shooting was jointly announced by Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor and Franklin Township Chief of Police Lawrence.
