N.J. man found sleeping in car reported stolen by Hertz, police said

Walter J. Elliott, 73, of Far Hills, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property after he was found sleeping in the car the in the parking lot of the county offices on Gaunt Place in Raritan Township on May 1, 2017, according to a police report.

RARITAN TWP. - Police charged a Far Hills man with receiving stolen property after he was found sleeping in the car the in the parking lot of the county offices on Gaunt Place on Monday, according to a police report.

Walter J. Elliott, 73, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. on Monday. Officer Brett Szatkowski responded to a call from a recovery agent attempting to repossess a vehicle for Hertz. The agent said they found someone sleeping in the vehicle, police said.

The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Fall River, Mass., in October of 2016. Elliot was released after processing at police headquarters, police said.

Clinton Township Police also reported a vehicle reported stolen on April 8 in Easton, Pa., was found in the Center Street Commuter parking at 11:18 p.m. on April 29.

NJ man gets 15 years for gun, cocaine conviction

The Easton Police Department asked the township police impound the car, a 2004 Volkswagen Golf, until arrangements were made to return the vehicle to its owner, police said.

Lambertville Police reported two recent thefts:

A light blue Mongoose mountain bicycle was stolen from the area of North Union and Buttonwood streets between noon and 6 p.m. on April 22. The theft was reported at 3:30 p.m. on April 24, police said.

A $50 Home Depot Gift Card and between $65 and $75 in coins and bills was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Holcombe Way between 8:15 p.m. April 23 and 7 a.m. April 24, police said.
