One suspect is in custody, police said.
FRANKLIN - Authorities are investigating three shootings that occurred in the township over the Memorial Day holiday weekend and have arrested one suspect, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson announced in a news release on Wednesday.
David Anderson, 28, of the Somerset section of the township, is in custody in connection with one the shootings, according to the release.
The first shooting happened on Friday night, and two occurred on Saturday, the release stated. Only one person was injured in the shootings, suffering a shoulder wound, police said.
On Friday at approximately 8:58 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received by township police reporting gunshots fired at a Minetta Road residence. The resident told police that he heard roughly five gun shots, police stated. A bullet hole was located inside the residence in a bedroom wall. No injuries were reported.
On Saturday at 3:03 a.m., police were alerted to gunshot fire in the area of Victor Street, the release said. At the scene, officers discovered a 33-year-old male in a Victor Street residence suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his right shoulder, police said.
An investigation revealed that the victim was in his second-floor bedroom when a stray bullet came through the window and struck him in the shoulder, it was stated in the release. Several 9mm shell casings were located outside the residence, police said.
Authorities obtained a search warrant for the next door residence and it yielded the recovery of a .22-caliber assault handgun with a magazine clip capable of holding 50 rounds of ammunition, police said.
Anderson, who lived in the residence, was arrested and charged with second-degree possession of an assault weapon, second-degree possession of weapon by certain person, and fourth-degree possession of a high capacity magazine, authorities said.
Anderson is being held in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
Also, on Saturday, at approximately 6:50 p.m., police received a 9-1-1 call reporting that three males were shooting a handgun across Route 27 towards New Brunswick from the area of Millstone Road and Somerset Street, the release said.
Authorities responded to the area and were told by witnesses that they heard gunshots and saw three black males running north on Fuller Street. No injuries were reported, it was stated in the release.
