The visit is President Donald Trump's second since becoming president.

NEWARK -- President Donald Trump has landed in New Jersey.

The president arrived in Air Force One at 5:15 p.m. Friday at Newark Liberty International Airport. Trump emerged from the plane and walked to Marine One, which will take him to the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

Stephen Miller, Trump's senior White House advisor for policy, is accompanying the president on the trip as is adviser and New Jersey native Kellyanne Conway.

Dozens of emergency personnel from numerous agencies, including the Secret Service, State Police and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, stood by as the president swapped aircrafts.

Only a small crowd of reporters gathered to greet the president when he arrived in Newark for what a White House spokeswoman said would be a short trip to the Garden State.

Trump will return to Washington after hosting a fundraiser Sunday at the golf club for Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-3rd Dist.). MacArthur's amendment allowing states to opt out of health insurance protections -- including those for policyholders with pre-existing conditions -- paved the way for House Republicans to pass legislation repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.

Earlier this month in advance of the golf club fundraiser, MacArthur set up a special joint fundraising committee that will allow him to take in individual contributions of as much as $257,700, rather than the maximum $5,400 for his re-election committee, Federal Election Commission filings show.

Donors must give at least $5,400 to attend the Sunday event.

For small airports in N.J., Trump's weekend visits cast a 30-mile-long shadow

The visit is Trump's second stay at his golf club in Bedminster since becoming president.

His first visit was in May, in which the president made no public appearances. In a statement on Twitter during the visit, Trump said taxpayers were saving money by him staying in New Jersey rather than at Trump Tower in New York City.

An FAA spokeswoman declined to spell out what precautions are taken whenever Air Force One lands at an airport. Presidential visits in the past have involved a "freeze" of all flights for roughly a half-hour before and after a presidential arrival or departure.

Jonathan D. Salant, Kathleen O'Brien and Paul Milo contributed to this report.
