Trump National was one of six New Jersey golf courses that made up the Modern Dream 18, a daylong attempt held June 20, 2017, to play the best 18 holes in the New York metropolitan area.

BEDMINSTER - Trump National was one of six New Jersey golf courses that made up the Modern Dream 18, a daylong attempt to play the best 18 holes in the New York metropolitan area.

A foursome, filmed by the Golf Channel, set off at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday from Friar's Head in Riverhead, N.Y., ending the day with a last putt at hole #18 Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City at 8:45 p.m.

The other New Jersey courses included:

  • Hole #14 at Neshanic Valley in Branchburg, the only public golf course in the Garden State to make the list
  • Hole #18 at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Peapack-Gladstone
  • Hole #3 at Metedeconk in Jackson
  • Hole #16 at Bayonne Golf Club

Hole #16 at Trump National Golf Club was played by Matt Ginella, Golf Channel's travel host; Brian Mahoney, executive director of the Metropolitan Golf Association; Michael Sullivan, president of the association; and, Joe Saladino, two-time association Player of the Year.

"I get an opportunity to do some amazing things and invited to some pretty memorable trips, but yesterday moves to the top of the list," Ginella said Wednesday on the Golf Channel's Morning Drive. "It was a blast."

The association started the Dream 18 marathon 35 years ago. Tuesday's Dream 18 was made up of 18 holes at some of the 50 courses built in the region since 1982.

The holes chosen for the Dream 18 form a par 72, 7,624-yard challenge selected from courses in the metropolitan area.

The Golf Channel will show a feature on the Modern Dream 18 during an upcoming Morning Drive.

"It was 15 hours of golf getting there by car, by helicopter," Ginella said. "It was a unique experience."

Ginella said Tuesday that Neshanic Valley was the most picturesque hole played to that point, and the crowd surrounding the ninth green was "the largest gallery of the day."

Hole #14 is Neshanic Valley Golf Course Meadow #9, a par 5, 577-yard layout played from the championship tees.
