It's hardly going to be a sarsaparilla crowd attending the party at the governor's mansion, the highlight of which will be watching the much-hyped Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor boxing match.

The word is out that there's going to be a pool party bash at the governor's mansion on Aug. 26.

Since he was going to be away on vacation, Gov. Chris Christie offered to let his buddies who host the "Boomer & Carton" radio show on WFAN to use the governor's official digs in Princeton as party central for about 75 guests.

But wait - the governor later was informed that he will be back in New Jersey after all on the date of the party.

And that's a good thing.

Imagine a party without the parents present to ensure that nothing gets out of hand.

That's not to say the invited guests would be not be responsible adults, but just to be safe, it's best if the parents keep an eye on things.

Christie won't hand over keys to governor's mansion

To be fair, to imply that the governor's pool party could devolve into a beer-guzzling affair is a bit of a stretch. There is no word if kegs of beer will even be on hand.

But it's hardly going to be a sarsaparilla crowd attending the party, the highlight of which will be watching the much-hyped Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor boxing match.

Sports fans and alcohol, perfect together.

The governor was quite piqued that the press made so much of a fuss about the party.

Apparently, Christie's office received a lot of negative reaction when it was reported that he would allow his radio friends to use Drumthwacket, the governor's mansion, for an unchaperoned party.

"Your spokesperson actually had to put out a statement about it," Craig Carton, co-host of "Boomer & Carton," said in a conversation with Christie.

"Yeah, because we were getting inundated with calls because these are people who have no life," Christie replied, referring to the press corps.

It seems Christie is on to us.

The governor then went on to say he "since sat down with the person who runs our life, which is the first lady of New Jersey," and learned he'll be back from family vacation. "So now it appears that I will be there to host the party."

It's a good thing Mary Pat Christie is keeping an eye on things.

But let's put this whole issue in perspective.

If the governor wants to have a party, let him have one. We are all adults here, right?
