RARITAN -- The victims in the borough's double homicide on Friday have been identified as Sandra Giuseppe, 51, and her teenage daughter, Kimberly Streath, 15, authorities said Monday night.
The cause and manner of death of Giuseppe was a mallet-type hammer and a rope, and the cause and manner of death to her daughter, a sophomore at Somerset County Vocational & Technical School in Bridgewater, was also a hammer, authorities said.
Ramon Cadiz, 51, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the slayings. He had his first court appearance on Monday afternoon in Somerset County Superior Court before Judge Robert B Reed.
It was stated in an affidavit filed Monday in Superior Court that Cadiz was angry and had accused the mom and daughter of stealing money from him, leaving him behind on the rent at their residence at the corner of First Avenue and Second Street.
NJ Advance Media previously reported that both victims were killed with a hammer, according to a law enforcement official and neighbors. The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that on Monday.
According to the affidavit, a hammer was found next to one of the victims, believed to be Streath, who was found in a second-floor bedroom. The victim suffered multiple blunt force injuries to her head caused by the head and claw of a hammer.
Next to the second victim, believed to be Giuseppe, on a first-floor couch was a mallet-type hammer, and a rope that had been placed around her throat. The victim suffered a facial injury consistent with the striking of her face by a mallet, it was stated in the affidavit.
The state of decomposition on the body of the victim on the second floor was advanced, and that of the victim on the first floor was moderate, according to the affidavit, but there was no information on how long the victims had been there before being discovered.
