Two vehicles were crossing Route 22 when a third slammed into one, causing that vehicle to slide into another.
WATCHUNG -- The drivers of three vehicles were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries following a three-car accident on Route 22 west at the intersection of Terrill Road on Monday afternoon.
Police said two vehicles were traveling south on Terrill Road crossing Route 22 when a third vehicle going west on Route 22 struck the other vehicles.
According to police, Elizabeth Bonner, 66, of Garfield had to be extricated from her vehicle and taken by State Police medevac to Morristown Hospital for treatment of leg, back and hip pain.
Peter Bartman, 57, of Toms River, and Larry Williams, 66, of Plainfield, were also taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.
On Monday at 4:22 p.m., Watchung police, fire and rescue personnel responded to Route 22 west and Terrill Road on a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident, police said.
According to police, Bonner, driving a 2000 Ford Mustang, was traveling south on Terrill Road crossing Route 22 when she was hit on the driver's side, police said. She was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated, police said.
Bartman, driving a 2009 Cadillac, was also traveling south on Terrill Road to the right of Bonner and her vehicle slid into his when she was struck, police said. He was taken by ambulance to Overlook Hospital complaining of had and neck pain, police said.
Williams, who was driving west on Route 22 in a 2014 Nissan, struck Bonner's vehicle, knocking it into Bartman's vehicle, police said. He was transported by ambulance to Morristown Hospital with neck pain, police said.
No summonses were issued at the scene and the accident remains under investigation, police said.
The accident was cleared and all lanes were reopened by 5:50 p.m., police said.
