SOMERSET --  A Sussex Borough man who authorities allege was distributing heroin in Somerville has been arrested after police acted on a tip.

The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Crime and Narcotics Task Force received information that on Sept. 8 a man--later identified as Joseph Volpone, 28--would be driving a black, four-door Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck in the area of a convenience store located on East Main Street in Somerville, authorities said.

Task Force detectives setup surveillance and at about 3 p.m., Volpone was spotted operating a black Chevy Silverado pick-up truck, authorities said. After he parked the vehicle in the convenience store parking lot, Task Force members approached him and advised him of an ongoing investigation, authorities said.

Volpone gave consent to search his vehicle and detectives seized 45 folds of heroin (under 1/2 ounce) and $965 in cash, authorities said.

Volpone was arrested and charged with third-degree possession of heroin with intent to distribute. He was released on his own recognizance.
