WARREN -- The Central School fifth-graders celebrated Pi Day on March 14, not with an accompanying glass of milk or a cup of coffee, but by measuring all things round.

Pi, a mathematical constant that represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, is represented by the number 3.14159265359, more commonly referred to as 3.14, which is why students commemorate the day on March 14.

The Central School students measured the circumference and diameter of bike tires, paper plates, Frisbees and other round items. "Students were able to discover that the relationship was always about three (plus a little) times the diameter equals the circumference, hence Pi!", said teacher Jill Zimmer.
