An accident on Interstate 78 has caused an eight mile backup in Central Jersey on Monday, March 21, 2016.
BEDMINSTER -- An accident on the eastbound side of Interstate 78 in the township caused delays of up to eight miles into Hunterdon County on Monday morning, the State Police confirmed.
The one-car crash blocked the left lane just east of exit 26 (Rattlesnake Bridge Road), resulting in delays of up to 20 minutes through the area, according to 511nj.org.
Delays continued eastbound to the Route 22 and Route 31 interchanges in Clinton in Hunterdon County. There were also delays on the eastbound side Route 22 from Hunterdon County to Somerville.
Shortly before 8 a.m., a vehicle driven by a 37-year-old female and occupied by two other passengers was traveling eastbound on Interstate 78 near mile marker 27.9 in Bedminster when it crashed into the left guard rail, police said.
No injuries were reported, police said. The driver was issued a summons for careless driving. No other charges have been filed as of yet, police said. The name of the driver and occupants were not released.
