A total of 8 people were in a Honda Accord that crashed on westbound Interstate 78 in Somerset County on Monday, May 30, 2016.
WARREN -- A Newark woman driving a 2012 Honda Accord with five children and two more adults inside struck a tree and then a guardrail on westbound Interstate 78 on Monday, New Jersey State Police spokesman Sgt. Jeff Flynn said.
Connie Slade, 27, was issued a motor-vehicle summon for the improper restraint of a child, Flynn said on Tuesday. The other two adults were also issued motor-vehicle summonses for improper restraint of a child.
According to the preliminary investigation, Slade was traveling in the left lane at 3:53 p.m. near mile marker 40 when she struck a tree and then a guardrail. It was not clear if the tree had fallen onto the roadway before it was struck or if Slade had left the roadway and struck it.The crash closed the left lane for just over an hour. All three adults suffered non-life threatening injuries and the children sustained minor injuries, Flynn said.
The crash remains under investigation, he added.
