A detour has been established for eastbound Route 518 traffic in Franklin Township as part of a bridge replacement project.

FRANKLIN TWP. - The eastbound side of Route 518 will be closed weekdays for the start of a project to replace the CR518 Bridge over the Delaware & Raritan Canal in Franklin, New Jersey Department of Transportation officials have announced.

From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays throughout the summer, Tarheel Enterprises, Inc. will close a single lane on the eastbound side of Route 518 (Georgetown Franklin Turnpike) and detour traffic. The $2.75 million state-funded bridge replacement project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Westbound Route 518 traffic will not be affected on the southern side of the bridge during the initial stage of construction, according to a news release.

Motorists traveling eastbound on Route 518 (Washington Street) into the township from Montgomery Township will be directed to make a right onto Crescent Avenue, then be directed to bear left onto Route 605 (Kingston Road). Drivers will then travel on Route 605 (River Road) before turning left onto Route 27 north and continuing back onto Route 518 (Georgetown Franklin Turnpike).
