Pedro Vazquez, 61, of Middlesex, was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Easton Avenue in Franklin Township on Monday, July 18, 2016.

FRANKLIN -- A Middlesex man died on Monday in an early-morning accident on Easton Avenue between Academy Road and Easton North Drive, Sgt. Phil Rizzo, spokesman for the township police department, said in a news release.

The one-vehicle accident, reported at 3:45 a.m., closed Easton Avenue for approximately six hours, according to the release. Police said a 1997 Toyota Rav 4 being driven by Pedro Vazquez, 61, had rolled over, trapping him inside. He was extricated by firefighters.

Vasquez, who was unconscious and unresponsive, was transported to an area hospital by Emergency Medical Services personnel and pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to the news release.

Witnesses sought in Amwell Road accident

A preliminary investigation suggests that Vazquez was traveling south on Easton Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a small patch of trees, causing the Toyota to rollover, according to the release.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Patrolman Jose Jaime of the Franklin Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Bureau at 732-873-5533, ext. 3143.
