Bus service into New York City would be made available if enough residents want it.

BRIDGEWATER -- As part of the Bus Commuter Park and Ride project, the township is asking residents to complete a survey to determine what service to New York City would best serve the needs of its commuters.

The Suburban Transit Corporation has put online a survey to decide the level of interest residents have in an express commuter bus service to New York City.

If enough residents show an interest in a commuter bus, Suburban Transit will start service as soon as possible, said Sean Hughes, corporate affairs director of Coach USA. The survey has been online for approximately a month, he said.

"We have some interest and based on the results moving forward we'll make our decision," said Hughes, adding the survey will continue for roughly another two weeks.

Hughes said a similar survey was recently done in Hillsborough and enough residents expressed an interest that bus service to New York City will be started there in another "two or three months, if not sooner," said Hughes.

The short survey asks residents questions such as how often they commute to New York City, how they currently make that commute, what are they normal work hours and what exactly in the city do they work.
