RARITAN TWP. - A 24-year-old Somerville resident has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault by auto following an accident on Route 202, police said.
Daniel Macdonald was also charged with driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.
The accident happened at 4:57 p.m. Aug. 9 when Macdonald, driving a 2006 Nissan Altima northbound on Route 202 approaching Voorhees Corner Road, reportedly swerved into the far right left turn lane, rear-ending a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica slowing in traffic, police said.
A 67-year-old Medford woman, who was a passenger in the Pacifica, complained of pain to her head and neck. She was transported to Hunterdon Medical Center by the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad, police said.
No other injuries were reported. Both vehicles were damaged and were towed from the scene.
Macdonald allegedly exhibited signs of being under the influence and was placed under arrest, police said.
He was also issued motor-vehicle summonses for failure to maintain lane control, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to exhibit documents and uninsured vehicle. He was released to a friend after processing, according to police. The accident was investigated by Officer Brett Szatkowski.
