Hunterdon County's Freeholders are expected to appoint Kevin Davis as county administrator during its April 4, 2017, meeting.

FLEMINGTON - Hunterdon County's Freeholders are expected to appoint Kevin Davis as county administrator during Tuesday's meeting.

Davis, a former township administrator in Hillsborough, will be appointed to a three-year term.

Hunterdon County Chief of Staff George Wagner has served as interim administrator since Cindy Yard retired from the position in 2013.

Davis, named township administrator in January 2004, left Hillsborough in 2010 to serve as deputy executive director of the Senate Republican staff, and as senior adviser on local government issues for state Sen. Thomas Kean, Jr. (R-21st).

He earned both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in public administration from Kean University and is state certified as a municipal clerk and purchasing agent.

Overall, Davis has more than 30 years of state and local government experience and is also a U.S. Army veteran, Freeholder Director John Lanza said.

Tuesday's meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at 71 Main St. and Davis' appointment is listed on the agenda, said Lanza, who intends to vote to make him the new administrator.

"We are looking for a proven manager to lead the county administration," Lanza said in a statement. "Mr. Davis has substantial experience at senior levels in state and local government. He brings what we believe is a fresh approach.

"His knowledge and experience managing a large municipal government, proven record of performance and energy is a good fit for our goal of achieving efficiency and effectiveness in our county government," Lanza said.

In Hillsborough, Lanza said, Davis served in the combined position of administrator and township clerk. Among his accomplishments were negotiating the preservation of "significant acreage" of open space and farmland, including the preservation of a 300-acre property now used for recreation, Lanza said. Davis also worked on budget and personnel management reforms and economic development programs, Lanza said.

The county advertised for the administrator's position in December and received "responses from many outstanding potential candidates," Lanza said.

County officials conducted "several interviews in searching for the right person," Lanza added.
