The driver was charged with vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated, authorities said
MONTVILLE --An alleged drunken driver hit and killed a Somerset County man who was riding a motorbike on Route 80 Friday night in Montville, authorities said.
Michelle Perez, 42, of Clifton, was charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular homicide in the death of Ismail Iqbal, 32, of Somerset, said Sgt. Jeff Flynn, a New Jersey State Police spokesman.
Flynn said Iqbal was riding a Suzuki scooter on Route 80 west at 6:52 p.m. when he was hit by Perez driving a Nissan Rogue near milepost 47.5 in Montville.
Both vehicles were traveling in the same direction but the details of how the crash occurred are still under investigation, Flynn said.
Iqbal was thrown from the bike, which is slightly smaller than a motorcycle, and was taken to St. Clare's Hospital in Denville where he was pronounced dead, Flynn said.
