BASKING RIDGE -- Some trees have feathers, some have eggs, some ribbons, and some have pictures of soccer players hanging from their branches.
The Festival of Trees has more than 40 trees decorated in various themes on display at the Environmental Education Center in Basking Ridge.
"It's a way to kick off the holiday spirit," said Monica Juhasz, a naturalist with the Somerset County Park Commission at the center. It is the 38th year for the festival.
Lynn Franklin and her husband Tom Franklin have been collecting dog-related decorations all year. "We love dogs," said Lynn Franklin. "We have four animal recuse dogs at home," added Franklin. "Doggone, (good Christmas)" is the theme for their tree.
The trees are open to the public seven days a week 9-4pm starting Dec. 4 and continuing through Dec. 27. The center is closed Dec. 24 and 25.
The snowflake cafe will be serving snacks and drinks along with live holiday music on the weekends.
The Environmental Education Center is located at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge.
