Police and school officials are investigating a report of a gun in the building.
SOMERSET -- Hillsborough police were investigating a lockdown at Hillsborough High School on Thursday morning, police and school officials said.
A representative with the superintendent's office said the superintendent, Jorden Schiff, had responded to the high school to investigate.
A small police presence was also on the scene as of 9:30 a.m.
Update: The lockdown was lifted shortly thereafter and Principal Karen Bingert sent out a letter to parents and guardians about the incident, a school official said.
The letter explained that there was a report of a comment made by a student that another student may have a gun in the building. But a police investigation determined the discussion was about a video game and that no one had actually seen a gun in the building. There was never a threat of violence.
