Victims were a woman and her teenage daughter, neighbors said.

RARITAN --  Neighbors said the two bodies taken from a home on the corner of First Avenue and Second Street Friday night were those of a woman and her teenage daughter.

A law enforcement official and neighbors said they were killed with a hammer allegedly by the woman's boyfriend. As of 10 p.m. Friday, the suspect remained at-large.

Though the couple was friendly, neighbors said they only knew them by Ramon and Sandra. They didn't know their last names. The woman, neighbors said, had a teenage daughter.

"I'm very shocked," said Ken Alligier, who has lived in the home behind the couple for the past 12 years. "She was a sweet, very nice person. The daughter was very sweet, too.

"They were peaceful. They got along with everybody. I have never seen the cops there for anything. It's crazy."

Alligier said Ramon would sometimes go across the street to the  Loyal Order of Moose Lodge to drink and play pool. Both are members of the Lodge, he said.

"He seemed like a normal guy," said Alligier. "Every time I saw him he would wave."

Brayan Garcia, who lives directly across the street from the couple, said he would often see them sitting on the porch, smoking and drinking.

"I never saw them argue or fight," said Brayan Garcia, who lives directly across the street.. "I never saw a cop over there."

The double homicide remains under investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, which is expected to issue a release Saturday afternoon.

Authorities were first called to to the home around 4 p.m. Friday. Neighbors said they saw two bodies being removed from the home at approximately 9 p.m.

Saturday morning, police tape surrounded the back of the home and a Raritan police officer was stationed at the scene.

"We don't expect everything like this to happen in Raritan," said one neighbor who declined to give his name. "It's real quiet here most of the time."
