Man was found in North Brunswick sleeping in his car after a state-wide manhunt.
RARITAN -- Authorities have arrested a suspect in the double homicide Friday in the borough.
Ramon Cadiz, 51, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He was apprehended at 4 a.m. Saturday in North Brunswick, where police found him sleeping in his vehicle. He is being held in Somerset County Jail on $2 million bail.
Neighbors have identified the victims as Cadiz's girlfriend and her teenage daughter. Authorities have yet to identify the victims.
A law enforcement official and neighbors have said Cadiz allegedly murdered the pair with a hammer. Authorities have yet to release the manner in which the pair were killed.
On Friday at approximately 3:15 p.m., Raritan police responded to First Avenue on a report of concerns regarding the welfare of the occupants of the residence, authorities said. Upon entry to the residence, officers went to the second-floor master bedroom and found one of the victims, authorities said.
Officers cleared the residence and preserved the house as a crime scene awaiting the arrival of crime scene detectives, authorities said.
When crime scene detectives arrived, they located the body of the victim on the first floor of the residence, authorities said.
An investigation identified the suspect as Cadiz, also known as "Ray," authorities said. A statewide manhunt was launched for Cadiz and the vehicle he was operating, authorities said.
Just before midnight, North Brunswick Police Sergeant Michael Sauvigne located the suspect's vehicle parked in a dimly lit secluded area on Petunia Drive in the Colony Oaks Apartment Complex, authorities said.
While Sergeant Sauvigne maintained surveillance vehicle, addition law enforcement personnel arrived and surrounded the area while a positive identification of the suspect was made, authorities said.
At approximately 4:00 a.m., detectives approached vehicle and observed Cadiz sleeping in a reclined position in the front driver's seat, authorities said. He was arrested without incident, authorities said.
The cause and manner of the deaths, along with the positive identification of the victims will be determined following the post mortem examination to be conducted by the Regional Medical Examiner's Office, authorities said.
