Raritan Valley Community College graduates Scott Jordan of Clinton and Catherine Espinal of Bound Brook were honored recently by the Branchburg Township Police Department for their lifesaving efforts at the college's swimming pool last spring.
During an early morning lifeguarding shift in March, Jordon and Espinal assisted a senior citizen who began to feel dizzy and then went into a state of cardiac arrest. Jordan and Espinal immediately initiated CPR and brought the elderly man back from unconsciousness before calling emergency services.
"I am grateful to have had such dedicated and well-trained lifeguards on duty to respond to the emergency," said Aquatics Director George Eversmann. "I'm very proud of them."
Since graduating from the college in May, both students have continued their education at four-year schools. Jordan is a student at Rowan University and Espinal is continuing her education at Rutgers University.
Raritan Valley Community College's main campus is located in Branchburg.
