Raritan Valley Community College graduates Scott Jordan of Clinton and Catherine Espinal of Bound Brook were honored Dec. 14 by the Branchburg Township Police Department for their lifesaving efforts at the RVCC swimming pool last spring.
During an early morning lifeguarding shift in March, Jordon and Espinal assisted a senior citizen who began to feel dizzy and then went into a state of cardiac arrest. Jordan and Espinal immediately initiated CPR and brought the elderly man back from unconsciousness before calling emergency services.
Reflecting on the incidents and the students' actions, RVCC Aquatics Director George Eversmann said: "I am grateful to have had such dedicated and well-trained lifeguards on duty to respond to the emergency. I'm very proud of them."
Since graduating from RVCC in May, both students have continued their education at four-year schools. Jordan is a student at Rowan University and Espinal is continuing her education at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
